Short Answer
RANGER wall-mounted pet doors will work in walls of any thickness, including 2x6 walls.
Slightly Longer Answer
RANGER wall-mounted pet doors are engineered to install and trim out like vinyl windows. Just like vinyl windows can be used with basically any type of wall construction, RANGER pet doors can be used with the same type of installation and finishing techniques.
The pet door itself is a fixed depth, 3-1/2'' (90 mm), which is thicker than most vinyl windows. It is slid into the rough opening from the exterior side of the house. The recommended installation is for the pet door to be "proud" of the exterior cladding, i.e., sticking out a little bit. In most cases, this will leave a little bit of rough opening that needs to be trimmed out.
This trim work is easily accomplished with the same techniques used for trimming windows. This often means jamb extensions or a drywall wrap. However, there is the flexibility to use more exotic materials if preferred. We've had customers use ceramic tile, Formica, peel-and-stick tiles, stained wood, and many other options. The sky is truly the limit. Because the seal for the pet door and its installation is on the exterior side of the door, the trim for the wall cavity does not need to be exterior grade.
